Owner and Managing Director of the firm is Barry Hayes, whose father founded the firm in 1960. Barry purchased the firm from his family in 1991.

Over the past 40 years the business has developed into a flexible dynamic engineering company and has developed a diversity of engineering experience.

Melbar specializes in providing quality Engineering Services to a whole host of business enterprises including large multi nationals. Melbar exports a range of products including specialist valves to the Australian market.

The Hutt Valley based factory operates 20 hours per day, 6 days per week. Our staff of 20 work in a safe and harmonious environment.

We have invested heavily in the latest technology to ensure that we stay ahead of our competitors. We are currently expanding our area of operation and widening our scope as a result of having actively identified market niches and we have committed to meeting the needs of these niches.

An example of our forward thinking in the area of technology development is the new CNC milling machine recently purchased which allows customers to redesign more sophisticated products around the capabilities of the machine. Melbar recognized early on that our future was to be one of high tech.

It is our intention to lead in the provision of CNC Machining and Milling services and we are heavily promoting this area of expertise.

The products and services provided by Melbar are provided on a very individualized basis. We deliver "quality on time" and this is seen as the most important point of differentiation for us to set ourselves aside from our competition.

Melbar Engineering is very effective in its delivery of service to customers because we are in tune with the needs of our customers and their product requirements. We spend time with our customers working through problem solving processes and finding solutions to their problems. This is a total teamwork approach and is appreciated by our customers who very much like our partnership approach to problem solving and solution finding.

As a socially responsible company, Melbar contributes to the local community through involvement with Taita College, Naenae Soccer Club, Hutt Marist and Te Omanga Hospice. We also provide pro bono services to the community and non-profit organizations.
